Slavery; Civil War: Georgia Slave Bill of Sale. Part printed form, completed in manuscript, 8 ½ x 3 ½", Augusta, Ga, Sept. 14, 1863. A receipt for $2,000 received by Blodget and Roberts, trustees for "Mary E. Ellis and children" in exchange for "one negro slave named Rachel." Ellis' husband apparently died soon before, and his property would have been sold to benefit his family. Printed on thin paper, several vertical folds, Very Good. The receipt is dated nine months after the Emancipation Proclamation. Accompanied by a later 19th Century envelope inscribed in black ink "Slave Bill of Sale".
