Mexican War. Letter to President James K. Polk in regard to a Mexican War Appointment, Sept. 16, 1847. Two-page, handwritten folio requests the appointment of Isham T. Beck of Richmond Kentucky as Assistant Commissary for a Volunteer Regiment in the Mexican War. After the candidate's qualifications are presented, the letter concludes with eight signatures of "your friends (personal and political) though perhaps not personally known to you" endorsing Beck's appointment.
