Civil War: Discharge, Reenlistment and Bounty Certificate of Charles H. McNaughton, 1863-1864. Certificate of Discharge (7 5/8 x 10 5/8") dated June 2, 1863. A BOUNTY PAID stamp on the front below the eagle, though, shows that McNaughton received his reenlistment bounty of $100 on Apr. 21, 1863. Interestingly, in the text below, an Aug. 5, 1863 Surgeon's Certificate of Disability given at Harewood Hospital states that "He is physically unsuitable for reenlistment in the Invalid Corps (a unit made up of amputees and others still able to perform staff duties that took part in the Wilderness Campaign). Then on verso, a Paymaster General's Office note of April 21, 1864 regarding a $100 bounty claim says that the recipient was discharged "within two years from date of enlistment by reason of wounds received in battle." A PAID IN FULL stamp dated Aug 7 1863 and a Court script People's No. 2 Feby 24, 1897 are also on verso of this multi-purposed, and intriguing document. Some minor soiling and paperclip rust stains. Fine. Ex the Reverend Paul Harwell Coll..
