Jackson, Andrew. Seventh President of the United States (1829-1837), frontiersman, politician and army general - Jackson defeated the Creek Indians at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend (1814) and the British at the Battle of New Orleans (1815); known as "Old Hickory" for his tough and aggressive personality, a polarizing figure in politics; as president Jackson strengthened the power of the office, dismantled the Second Bank of the U.S., and began the forced relocation and resettlement of Native American peoples from the Southeast to west of the Mississippi; while his protection of citizens' individual liberty is much lauded in history, his support of slavery and his pivotal role in the Indian removal is much criticized. Autograph Document Signed "Andrew Jackson" as President. Land grant registration, Feb. 3, 1831. Vellum, printed and written, 15 1/3 x 9 ¾". The document registers Thomas Hanna of Parke County, Indiana for 80 acres of land. Jackson signs bottom right, paper seal affixed lower left. Soiling on blank side, some fissure splits on seal, tip of right corner missing. Very Good.
