Canada. Manitoba. Hudson's Bay Company. Bearer Promissary Note for 5 Shillings Sterling. Dated at London (England) 11 May 1820. Fully executed remainder issued at York Factory, Manitoba, 1st of June 1821. Cf.MB10-10-04b-iiR. On laid paper, watermarked "C Wilmott". Arms upper left, flourish of swirls on back. Accountancy stub still attached at left. In the early days of the fur trade, the HBC was the only European presence in western Canada, playing also the role of banker, printing their own money of which this is a fine example. 1820 was the first printing at London of HBC notes, the 1821 imprint notes are not as rare. One light vertical centerfold, otherwise About Uncirculated. A very attractive Hudson Bay note with handsome signatures. Accompanied by mid-19th century color map of the "British Provinces in North America". [2]
