Canada. Pair of financial-related items from the late 18th Century: 'Bon' script of Monsieur Dumoulin of Longueuil, LC (Quebec), December 1794. 3 ½ x 1 ¾" script good for 3 loaves of bread. (Loaves were valued at 7 to 11 Pence each.) Signed and dated by Dumoulin. One of the earliest merchant scripts issued under British rule. At the time of Dumoulin's death in 1796, a total sum of 10 Pounds 3 Shillings and 2 Pence were claimed against his estate for notes held by the seigneur of Longueuil, Alexander Grant. Less than 100 pieces of Dumoulin script have survived. Paper has good integrity, ink still fairly strong and quite legible. Fine-Very Fine; and Nova Scotia Promissory note for 3 Pounds, 5 Shillings 6 Pence, 1796. 8 x 3" paper, the money due John Authus(?) from Jacob Mays(?), New Cornwall, August 23, 1796. Minor old stain, Very Fine. [2]
