Matisse, Henri (1869-1954). Leading figure in modern art, known for his expressive use of color and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. Along with Picasso and Marcel Duchamp, he is considered one of the three figures who helped define the revolutionary developments in painting and sculpture in the early 20th century; originally labelled a Fauvist, by the 1920's Matisse was hailed as a bastion of the French classical tradition in painting. Autograph "H Matisse" on 5 ½ x 3 7/8 album page. Mounted with a small b&w portrait. Very Fine.
