[Art]: de Kooning, Elaine; John F. Kennedy De Kooning (1918 or 1920-1989) -- American Figurative Expressionist, Abstract Expressionist and art editor; her portrait of President John F. Kennedy hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Autograph Letter Signed "Elaine". One-page, 8 ¼ x 11, typewritten, 827 Broadway, New York, no date (likely early 1963). In her letter to "Bill" (a friend or agent), she relates that she is sending some photos, including one of her sketching JFK "down at Palm Beach during a conference with Orville Freeman". That three of her paintings of "the President are in the New England Pavilion at the World´s Fair…another painting…will go to the Truman Library and another to the Kennedy Library." De Kooning also mentions sculpting a bust of Kennedy while she was teaching at the University of California, and says she plans to write an article or possibly a book describing her experience with doing the series of Kennedy portraits. Accompanied by an 8x10 B&W Photo of de Kooning sketching JFK - the photo mentioned in her letter. In Elaine´s hand, on verso "to Bill from Elaine - photo taken Dec 28, ´62". Both Very Fine. [2]
