Retired British soldier who served as an American general during the Revolution, took credit for the victory at the Battle of Saratoga; one of Revolution´s most controversial figures because of his role in the Conway Cabal, the attempt to discredit George Washington, his claims for Saratoga and his actions and defeat at Camden. Autograph Document Signed Mr "Gates". Receipt for hay, New York, Bowery, Feb. 19, 1793 in his hand. Hay and price totals on verso. Small nick on one corner, otherwise Good Fine.
