North American Land (PA) 1795. 2 shs. No.481. Signed by Robert Morris, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Known as the ´financier of the American Revolution;" founder of the Bank of North America; one of the original US Senators from Pennsylvania; risky land speculation destroyed his fortune, and he died a pauper. Also signed by secretary "James Marshall." With the North American Land Company, Morris and his partners hoped to multiply their fortunes selling 4 million acres they had acquired cheaply. Settlers´ payments came in too slowly to cover taxes and loans that came due, forcing Morris into bankruptcy and debtor´s prison. An excellent example, without any ink erosion in the bold signatures. Uncanceled, and very desirable as such. EF.
