Harding, Warren G Rare format Typewritten Document Signed "Warren G Harding" as President, 2 pages, folio, Washington, February 15, 1922. Harding grants "a full and unconditional pardon" to EW Poth, who was "convicted in the United States District court for the Western District of Texas of obstructing recruiting and enlistment of the military forces of the United States" during the First World War. Poth was paroled in March 1919, and the pardon is being issued "for the purpose of restoring his civil rights." Also Signed by Attorney General "HM Daugherty." With red Justice Department seal. Foxed, soiled, well toned, and with partial fold separations, the document is just about VG. With contemporary photocopy in negative, upon which is taped a metal Tag stamped "POTH / 74314.". This was apparently not his prison tag, for his inmate number at Leavenworth was 12933. A most interesting form of Harding as president, priced due to condition. The most famous man convicted of a crime similar to Poth´s was Socialist leader Eugene V Debs; Harding did not pardon Debs but he did commute his sentence.
