ND (ca. 1859) Declaration of Independence Electrotype Copper Plaque. 8" x 7". The full text of the Declaration and facsimile signatures surround a rendering of John Trumbull´s painting and later Charles Cushing Wright´s medal that shows a committee (including Franklin and Jefferson) presenting the draft of the Declaration to the Continental Congress. Produced by New York electrotypist Samuel H. Black who was also known to produce several Civil War era merchant tokens. Overall very attractive with mostly bright red copper color as a result of previous cleanings and only minor spotting. Accompanied by period wooden frame (shows some damage) and glass. A well-known and visually impressive production that undoubtedly graced the walls of many numismatists and historians throughout the years.
