James II, Two Guineas, 16.79g., 1687, laureate bust facing left, iacobvs.ii. dei.gratia, rev.inverted die axis, crowned cruciform shields, crowns with frosted inner rings, sceptres in angles, eight strings to Irish harp, date either side of crown above English shield, .mag. br.fra. et.hib rex., edge, diagonally milled (MCE 121; S.3399), with considerable mint brilliance, lightly flecked both sides, with a light red tone to reverse, a superb specimen with even the pupil of the eye visible, good extremely fine, very rare thus Estimate £4,500-5,500 provenance Purchased Baldwin 1948 for £60
