Charles I, Shilling, 5.95g., Tower mint, group E, type 3b, m.m. bell, fourth bust, bust 2, small neat bust wearing armour and soft falling lace collar, reads br fr et hib, rev. oval garnished shield surmounted by Welsh plumes, small mintmark on both sides (Sharp E2/3 and Pl.VIII, 64 (same obv. die); JGB 491A (same rev. die); N.2226; S.2788), a piece of "Fine Work", struck on a perfect round flan, attractively toned, extremely fine, very rare thus Estimate £2,500-3,000 provenance:

The ticket accompanying this piece refers only to the Brand provenance. Spink purchased Bliss, lot 375, on commission for Virgil Brand with R C Lockett and Valentine Ryan as the underbidders. It is probable, but not absolutely certain given the lack of an illustration, that this is Lord Hastings/Bliss specimen
