A First World War American Pilot's Badge.
An aviator's exceedingly rare and important wings, in sterling silver by Tiffany, mounted with initials US in gold, the reverse engraved KENNETH MASON STEWART 4.28.18, maker's name and STERLING, with brooch pin fitting

The date on the reverse of the badge is almost certainly that Stewart's graduation as a pilot. He is not credited with any victories in aerial combat.
At the conclusion of hostilities, he became one of the first pilots to join the newly-formed US Airmail Service. He was killed on the 3rd February 1922, when one of the motors of his 2 DH failed, causing the aircraft to stall and crash.
