Transport Medal, one clasp, S. Africa 1899-1902 (A.Fortay); Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society's Medal, silver (to Capn Alexr Fortay S.S. "Georgian" For Meritorius & Humane Service 21.12.12), with silver riband buckle, edge bruise to both medals, good very fine or better

Captain Alexander Fortay served in the S.S. Victorian (F. Leyland Co Ltd) as 2nd and 1st Officer during the South Africa run, received the Silver Medal from the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society for his part in the rescue of five crew of the American schooner "Benjamin F. Phillips, of St. John Newfoundland abandoned in mid-Atlantic on 21st September, 1912. Owing to the heavy sea and an increasing gale it was with difficulty the rescued and rescuers were got on the steamer. The lifeboat had to be cast adrift, as it was impossible to hoist it aboard.
