D.C.M. London Gazette 11.3.1916 Sergeant Henry Davies, 171 Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers. 'For conspicuous gallantry on several occasions, notably in assisting an officer to load and tamp an emergency charge, and blowing up the enemy when they were on the point of breaking into one of our galleries. He has always set a fine example of cool bravery.'
