Johnson, Louis A. - American public official (1891-1966); US Secretary of Defense under Harry S Truman. TLS "Louis" as Secretary of Defense, 2/3 page, small 4to, on official stationery, Washington, receipt handstamped 6/23/1949. He acknowledges receipt of journalist Barnet Nover´s invitation to ride the "Denver Post Special, which will leave for the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo on Tuesday, July 26..." and although he realizes "the importance of this occasion and appreciate the kind invitation...I find that upon looking over my schedule of official events for July, that I have made a prior commitment..." The event was in honor of Nover´s publisher, Palmer Hoyt. He adds in an Autograph Postscript, "Good to see you recently..." In very good condition. With original typewritten envelope.
