Jesup, Morris K. - American banker and philanthropist (1830-1908); founded a banking firm at age 26 and retired a millionaire less than thirty years later, devoting the rest of his life to helping to finance polar expeditions and institutions such as the NY Museum of Natural History and the Tuskegee Institute. DS "M.K. Jesup" as transfer agent, 1 page, oblong 4to, no place [probably NYC], March 24, 1866. Jesup signs a certificate for 55 shares of the Joliet and Chicago Railroad Company [#644], issued to Caroline Bishop. On verso, the stock is transferred to Mrs. M.V.A. Jesup in 1900. With revenue stamps on recto and verso. Cancelled, with punch holes affecting entire signature. With 8vo black and white printed portrait. Estimate US$ 50-75
