Brooks, Phillips Influential American clergyman (1835-93); rector of Trinity Church in Boston, the construction of which he supervised; also active at Harvard University; wrote the hymn "O Little Town of Bethlehem". ANS "Phillips Brooks," as chairman of the Committee to visit the Divinity School of Harvard University, 1p, small 12mo, on his address-imprinted card, Boston, no date. He explains that the committee "will meet at 10 Water Street on Saturday Dec 4 at 3 P.M." Mounting traces on verso, otherwise in very good condition. In 1881, Brooks was offered a permanent and dominating position at the Divinity School, but declined the honor. Estimate US$ 100-150
