Booth, Evangeline English-born American missionary (1865-1950); daughter of William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, she took command of its US mission in 1905, and became head of the entire organization in 1935. TLS "Evangeline Booth" as Territorial Commander of the United States, 2/3p. 4to, on her official stationery, NYC, 5/25/1927. In a letter marked "Personal," she writes Philip Allen of East Walpole, MA, thanking him for "the invitation to come to Wonderland [the Salvation Army´s children´s summer camp on Lake Massapoag in MA] and to meet the party of friends that you undertake to gather...This interest in Wonderland and in myself is most sincerely appreciated and it makes my regret at my inability to favorably respond all the deeper..."
