Booth, Edwin American stage actor who was known as the greatest of his age (1833-93); noted for his Shakespearean roles and his pioneering of the naturalistic style; the most prominent of a family of actors, he was the older brother of assassin John Wilkes Booth. Cabinet card Photograph Signed "Edwin Booth" on mount below image, and dated, probably in another hand, "Jan. 10 [18]84." A distinguished bust-length portrait by Sarony of New York. Original backing appears to have been removed and replaced with later paper. Closed crack on recto, corner of backing missing on verso, otherwise in good condition. Estimate US$ 100-200
