American Revolution: The Capture of Major Andre. Choice Engraving "The Capture of Major Andre," 1845. Ca. 16" x 19". After the painting by A.B. Durand, with figures by A. Jones, landscape by Smillie & Hinshelwood, printed by W.F. Smith for the American Art Union, NY. Following the famous incident from the Revolution, three American guards have apprehended the British spy, and have found letters from Benedict Arnold hidden in his boots. He was later hanged as a spy despite appeals from many Continental officers, who were impressed by his personal bearing. Some discoloration and soiling in margins, but VG! Estimate US$ 300-400
