Reconstruction: Military Commissioners, Virginia. Original black and gray ink Painting on paper, ca. 17" x 19.5" probably for engraving, a splendid architectural design base with many details as woman at left holds a paper with "Emancipation" and Liberty at top holds scroll with words "Equal Rights for All" and in the bottom plinth "Reconstructed Virginia," with its new interpretation of the state motto, "Sic semper tyrannis". The list of military commissioners in adhered to the center of the design, a bit of glue showing at the right side. Handsome, and signed R. L. Kirkpatrick 1875 at lower right, this is an original work, and worthy of attention. Estimate US$ 150-200
