Newspapers: Lincoln on Reconstruction "The New-York Times," vol. XIV, no. 4227, 4/12/1865, featuring an article on "The New Era / Important Speech by the President / His Views on Peace and Reconstruction..." giving Lincoln´s speech in the wake of the capture of Richmond on April 3 and the surrender of Lee´s army on April 9. This speech was perhaps the most important one Lincoln ever gave, for it told the course he wished to pursue in healing the country´s wounds. Just two days after this paper came out, Lincoln was assassinated, and his lenient intentions were not implemented by a radical-controlled Senate. Estimate US$ 30-40
