George I's reign marked the beginning of the Hanoverian dynasty and a period of relative stability for the American colonies.


His relatively hands-off approach allowed Colonial assemblies to grow more assertive and self-reliant, strengthening traditions of local self-governance that would later underpin revolutionary sentiment. Economically, his reign coincided with growing colonial prosperity, expanding trade networks, and the continued growth of the plantation economy in the South, alongside increasing tensions over land encroachment with Native nations, notably contributing to conflicts such as the Yamasee War (1715-1717) in the Carolinas. Equally the William Woods coinages of 1722-1724 saw the first spirited attempts by British manufactures to cater to British American commercial specie needs since the private Baltimore issues of three-quarters of a century before.


His reign also saw continued rivalry with France and Spain over colonial boundaries, though no major American war erupted during this period.
