Revolutionary Europe
1848 (8 Feb. - 10 March) Three business letters posted within one stampless wrapper to Messrs Abm. Bell & Co, New York from Liverpool with postal markings, referring to "the Revolution in France (that) has caused great uneasiness here as there is no telling where it will end..." The financial consequences are emphasised. "...unsettled political conditions of some other Continental States has produced a money and commercial panic throughout a great part of Europe". The writer reports on the collapse of French government securities and railway shares, fears of political unrest in Britain and the effect upon the Liverpool cotton and grain markets.
