1840 Autograph of Queen Victoria signed and dated by her on gold cyphered notepaper "Victoria R / Windsor Castle / January 7 1840" with an accompanying letter written to Mrs Lane by Baroness Louise Lehzen, Governess to the young Princess Victoria and later her secretary and confidante. The Baroness apologises that "Her Majesty cannot frank any letter herself, her right hand in that respect is the Keeper of the Privy Purse, Sir Frank Wheatley, who will frank this letter. He can frank any weight and number, but that privilege will cease on the 10th inst. as Her Majesty has given it up, like Her subjects have done." An important letter regarding the abolishing of the franking priviliege
