Great Britain
Admiral Lord Nelson (1758-1805)
c1800 Pair of paste shoe buckles in a fitted case with provenance given by "J. Rochelle Thomas, Antiquarian & Medallist, 11 King Street, St. James' Street, S.W. (two doors from Christies)" written on his printed stationery card "Aug 4 (19)08, Sir,
The only documentary evidence I have that the pair of Paste Buckles were the property of Lord Nelson is the statement which appeared in the catalogue of the sale at which I purchased them viz. at Messrs Puttick & Simpsons, 47 Leicester Square about 3 years ago,
I paid £10:10:0 for them. I believe the collection was that of a Mr. Summersfield of Norfolk and I do not think there is the least reason why their authenticity should be questioned. I will try and get you further particulars. Your obedient servant, J.Rochelle Thomas".
Domed case 11x8x3 (some wear to the inner lining of the lid), buckles (4x6.5x1.5cm)
