Admirals Monck and Deane
1653 Manuscript letter written from Portsmouth to the "Commissioners for Ordering and Managing the Affairs of the Admiralty and Navy" at Whitehall, signed by Admiral George Monck (1608-1670), 1st Duke of Albemarle and Richard Deane (1610-1653), Parliamentary General and Admiral, later killed at the Battle of Solebay (2nd May 1653). The letter recommends Captain (later Admiral) Richard Haddock to be Commander of a Convoy of merchant ships. Professionally conserved and laid down on acid free paper, preserving a red wax seal depicting an anchor.
