1201 Indenture, Fourteen Years Prior to the Magna Carta
1201 (11 November) indenture (Part 'B') in Latin on vellum in which Lady Wisa de Blosseville, daughter of Jordon of Blosseville grants lands at Halsam to Fulk of Oiri "rendering 10 marks of silver yearly in the octave of St. Martin in Winter to he or he Messenger at Tonrnton, who carrier her letters patent to Fulk" and recording that "Fulk and his wife have granted ... five marks of silver each year. And the agreement began at the feast of St. Martin in winter, in the year of the Incarnation of the Lord one thousand two hundred and one, that is, the first feast of St. Martin after High, Bishop of Lincoln, died" (11 Nov., 1201).

The document cut in zig-zags at top, as was customary for indentures in this period, the upper half being the 'A' copy. Complete with 'tail' that would have carried the seal at foot.

A hugely significant early document, predating anything offered by Spink in recent years and a remarkable survivor.
