England
Playwrights
1690s A pair of financial documents one signed by the well-known 17th century playwright, Sir Robert Howard (1626-1698) and the other is signed by Robert Killigrew, the father of Thomas Killigrew, who later took over the mantle of Howard at the Theatre Royal.

Interestingly, the signature of Robert Howard is likely from a handstamp, indicated by the precision of the name, and also the artifact from the side of the stamp above the letter "a". It is very uncommon for stamps to be used in this period, and was usually confined to only a select few monarchs, very rarely civil servants.

Robert Killigrew was a Brigadier General during the Spanish War of Succession and was later killed in 1707 at the Battle of Almansa.

Excellent condition for both documents. (9 x 18cm and 24 x 19cm)
