Receipts and bills in Latin
A group of four vellum documents, written in Latin, that record exchanges of money.

The group includes a document from the 33rd year of the reign of Charles II (1681/82), a bill (1586) with the stylised signature of Richard Stonely, Teller of the Exchequer, and the only recorded person to purchase a work of Shakespeare's, a teller bill (1613) signed by Thomas Watts granting money to Stephen Phillips, and a 17th century bill.

Richard Stonley, as a Teller, kept a detailed diary, including his regular prayers throughout the day, ending his day with thanks to God. He is the only recorded person to purchase a Shakespeare piece, the poem Venus and Adonis. Stonley, despite his piety, was later sent to Fleet Prison for embezzling £12,000 from the exchequer.
