Thomas Fairfax, 3rd Lord Fairfax of Cameron - His Missing Daughter
1671 (12 Nov.) long autograph letter signed "T:Fairfax", over two sides to Lady Clinton[?], reading:

Thanking for her letter "in which you were pleased to let me know my daughter could not con-veniently make a jorney downe this summer, which I did partly believe, though I should have beene glad to have seene her yett the disappointment of my expectation was with less trouble receiving the intimation of itt from so gentle a hand as your Layds. And now Madam having beene obliged to you for so favourable a care as your Lady have alwayes exprest of me, I shall beg once more you would be so charitable to deliver me from some trouble I am into lett me know whether my daughter is gone, for I have not heard one word from any but what your Lady was pleased to write to Mrs. Stretton & it seemes soe strange to me she should goe to stay at Callis, a garrison only of souldiours, as I cannot apprehend a reason for itt, neither can I thinke shee would be for-getfull of me without giving me word of her going out of the Kingdomesome notice, since it was not present to [Left margin] others, but that some suden [?] occasioned it, how ever in her more composed thoughts she could not think me for unnaturall a father I should no be in doubts & trouble till I know where & what condition she was in, therefore I beseech you Madam if you have heard any more certanly how they have proceeded in that journey your Lady will do me thatt favour to let me know itt not thatt I can desire it from you owne hand ...".
