King Charles II - The Stuart Restoration
1660 (12 April) letter signed "Charles R" at top from "our Court at Bruxelles" to the Attorney General asking him to prepare a bill for signature in which he will create John Crew of Steane in Northampton, Baron Crew.

Some typical foxing; a fine and rare document while in exile.

Notes: King Charles II was restored to the Monarchy just days after this letter was penned, in May 1660. On the 4 April, Charles II issued the Declaration of Breda which set out his claim to the crown. On doing so, Monck organised the Convention Parliament which met for the first time on 25 April, and on the 8 May he proclaimed that King Charles II had been the lawful Monarch since the execution of his father. Charles landed in Dover on 25 May, and entered London on the 29th.

King Charles II would cast many judgements from thence forward, executing the rebels and rewarding those loyal to his father, even issuing Baronetcies from his court in Brussels.
