George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle
1653-66 four letters from Albemarle:

1653 (8 Nov.) letter signed from Whitehall to the Commissioners of the Navy appointing Richard Washington as "Clerk of the Checks" on the Ship 'Katherine'. Signed "George Monck".

1659 (24 March) letter signed from St. James's with integral address panel reading "To Lieutenant George Lassells at Nottingham" to ordering him to send three "agitators or fomenters of disconntent" to him "to be brought to the council or to me in the agittator among the soldiery the council of state have promised to give a reward of ten pounds for every agitator that shall bee discovered". Signed "George Monck".

1666 (18 Jan.) letter signed from the "Cockpitt" to an unnamed correspondent, reporting that "Major Legg informed mee that his Company and Captine Bennett in ... the Duke of York's Regiment under the Command of Collonell Sr. Christopher Wrey who have been appointed to keep guard over the prisoners at Sudbury, are in want of ammunition". Signed "Albemarle".

1668 ( 30 July) letter signed from Whitehall to unnamed correspondence ordering a payment of £25 to Richard Domey, "one of his Ma'ties Victims" to be assigned to his mother and his widowed wife. Signed "Albemarle".

A generally fine and rare group covering both forms of his signature.
