Henry Ireton, Parliamentary Forces in Ireland
1650 (6 October) warrant to Sir John Wallston signed "H: Ireton" being an order to pay "the forces under Command of his Excellency the Lord Leiut. of Ireland and for the Incedent Charges of the sayd fforces, to issue out and pay until Lt: Collonell Symon Eaton upon account the Summe of thirty fower pounds Tenn shillings, towards fourteene days pay for his owne & Capt. Burrells Companys in Collonell Richard Lehunts Regiment of Foote"

With 6 October postscript in receipt of said moneys, signed by Simon Eaton.

Very fine and a particularly rare signature; a quick search of the major auction houses online records produced only two signatures.

Notes: Henry Ireton (1611-51) served as Lord Deputy of Ireland (1650-51) and MP for Appleby (1654-51). Ireton is best known for his actions in Ireland where he took a brutal approach to the Catholic forces in Ireland. In 1651 Ireton ordered that areas harbouring 'guerrillas' should be stripped of food - much of Ireland suffered in this way. Ireton was among those whose body was disinterred by Charles II.
