The Duke of York, Future King James II
1650 (4 August) autograph letter signed "James" (aged sixteen) to "My Lorde" the Marquis of Argyll writing: "I have sent this Gentleman to congratulate to his Ma'ty the hopefull condition his affairs are put into now in his Kingdome of Scotland, which I cannot remember without making some acknowledgments to you for that part you have contributed thereunto, which knowing to bee a very considerable one, you may assure your self of a proportionable share of my affection and friendship and that I am always ready to give you the best proofs I can thereof".
Very fine and believed one of the earliest letters in his hand, there being only two earlier recorded.
