King Charles I's Shoes
1648 (20 July) warrant ordering the payment of £39, 6/- to John Alexander "his Ma'ties Shoemaker" for "threescore two pairs of shoes, five pairs of Bootes, & three pairs of Turk[?]-Slippers".
Signed by Colonel Edmund Masey (Northumberland), Henry Vane the younger, Cornelius Holland (Regicide) and Thomas Hoyle.
A remarkable and insightful document - the reference to Turk-slippers is particularly interesting, especially for any with an interest in the history of fashion.
