Thomas Fairfax, 3rd Lord Fairfax of Cameron as Commander in Chief of the Parliamentary Army
1647 (15 Jan.) commission on vellum with well preserved wax seal at top appointing Joseph Drake to be Storekeeper at the Garrison at Hull. Signed at foot "T: Fairfax". Fine and scarce.

Notes: Thomas Fairfax (1612-71). Fairfax had taken Hull soon after the battle of Adwalton Moore in 1643. Prior to this he greatly distinguished himself in the service of the King, commanding a company of 160 in the first Scotts war. He would eventually disapprove of the beheading of King Charles I and became influential in the restoration.
