1642 (23 October) letter from "our Court at Oxford" signed "Charles R" at top with integral address panel reading "To our right trusty and right welbeloved Cousin Jame Earl of Derby" informing "that wee have given our Commission to this Bearer Colonell Plaer to be Lieutenant Colonel of the Regiment of Horse now raising in those part, under the Command of our Right trusty and wellbeloeved Cosin the Viscount Molineux...".

Generally fine and with superb intact wafer seal.
