1616-58, an interesting group (7) of Parliamentary orders, warrants and commissions with 1616 (Jan.) payment order issues by Phillip Herbert, Earl of Montgomery and 4th Earl Pembroke, signed "Montgomery", "Fulke Greville" and "Jo[hn] Bingley; 1653 (27 Jan.) order headed "At the Councill at Whitehall" regarding "prize goods" and proceeds for widows and orphans, signed "W[illiam] Jessop, Clerk of the Counsel"; 1648 (5 March) order signed by John Lambert (Parliamentary Major General) regarding a dispute between two inhabitants of "Wintersett"; two payment orders / receipts with signatures of Sir Robert Pye, Sir William Constable and James Fiennes; 1644 (9 Aug.) document signed "E Manchester (Edward Montagu, Earl of) appointing Robert Brewster Lieutenant Governor of Great Yarmouth; and lastly, 1658 (22 May) signed "Wm[William] Lenthall" as Speaker of House of Commons giving a ruling on a non-payment of a bond for overpriced goods between Thomas Calvin and his wife on the part of John Fortescue. A very good group of documents, some trifling faults as to be expected with age.
