In very good condition. Cabochon sapphires and diamonds are all present and securely set. The piece shows light wear consistent with age, and the clasp is in working order.
Central to Art Nouveau aesthetics is the concept of the whiplash curve, a dynamic, asymmetrical line drawn from botanical stems, vines, and floral growth. This brooch exemplifies this approach, with its scrolling composition rendered in high-carat gold and set with cabochon sapphires and old-cut diamonds.
The jewel is further enhanced by its presentation in its original fitted case from Wartski, one of London’s most distinguished antique jewellery houses, renowned since the nineteenth century for its exceptional stock of historic jewels and its close association with royal and aristocratic patronage. Surviving original cases of this type are increasingly uncommon.
