Circular brooches were a defining jewellery form of the 1860s, reflecting the Victorian taste for balanced, architectural ornament and richly textured surfaces. Typically constructed in gold, these brooches were often centred with a domed gemstone or enamelled boss, with turquoise, coral, and coloured enamel being particularly favoured.
