An extensive collection on leaves showing the many variations of this postmark and organised into the towns of use. The collection includes mail from overseas with Falmouth boxed "½" in green (3), 1838 entire from Penang with boxed "india letter/portsmouth" and London boxed "½", manuscript "½" on 1813 (11 June) entire from Edinburgh to Dunbar, believed to be the earliest example of this tax, two different strikes on covers, different types of Edinburgh including struck in red, Glasgow, Leith including in blue (2) and dull blue (4), Aberdeen, Ayr in blue, Dundee, Hawick, Paisley, Perth, Stirling in bluish (2); England with London types, Berwick types in bluish, Bristol, Carlisle types including in red, Liverpool, Manchester in red (3) and Dublin. A fine and comprehensive collection. with some early dates of use and some scarcer types. Also 1894 redirected cover with boxed "½" used as a tax handstamp. (113 covers)
