1818 (Nov. 22). Entire letter from the Health Magistrate of Venice to the Supreme Health Magistrate in Naples, reporting outbreaks of pestilence occurring at the port of Vlorë (Albania), including very interesting passages (English translation of the text enclosed), bearing “Venezia” postmark, arrival postal cachet of Naples in red at right, handwritten with double postage: “6” Italian lire of the Austrian Empire and “14” tornesels of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, as well as the registration number “3046”, incorrectly written “2046” at upper left. This is one of six recorded letters containing information on the spread of the plague in Ottoman Albania and the associated risk of its extension to the neighbouring Italian peninsula.
