1885 (13 Aug.) large "on her majesty's service" envelope registered to Hong Kong, bearing 5c. blue and 10c. blue-green (3, on defective corner) tied by very fine strikes of the sub-office "S2" obliterator (thin, wide type) in black (Webb type Aii) with the characteristic type C despatch c.d.s. and a superb strike of the large "R" in circle. There is some creasing that does not detract from this highly important cover, very few are recorded from the sub-office.

This is the latest recorded date of us of the "S2" and c.d.s. on cover (Webb) and the earliest use of the registration handstamp (Proud). A magnificent cover. Photo
