Hong Kong
Treaty Ports
Hankow
1875 (8 Aug.) envelope to Guernsey, bearing 1863-71 24c. green cancelled with fine strike of "65B barred oval (Webb Type B), backstamped with "hankow/a/au 8/75" c.d.s. in the same colour, Hong Kong transit (11 Aug.) and Guernsey arrival (5 Oct.); small peripheral faults and repairs, but just three other examples known with the "62B" barred oval from Hankow, with this being the earliest. B.P.A. Certificate (2026). Photo

Note: Webb records two other covers used before the introduction of the "D.27" cancellation, this example being unknown to him. A fourth example was sold by Spink Hong Kong for HK$250,000 in 2019. These all bear the same large "62B" and it is concluded that this cancellation was supplied to Hankow before being replaced by the more familiar numeral.
