(x) Richard II (1377-1399), Half-Noble, 1377-1399, Type 1a / Edward III Mule, Tower (London), RIC | ARD 'x DI : GRA 'x REX : AnGL 'x 7 x FR 'x D ': h ': 7 x, RIC over ED (from a re-purposed Post-Treaty Period and otherwise unknown die), annulet above sail, single saltire stops, King standing in ship, brandishing long sword and Royal shield set with semé of four fleurs in first quarter, wearing Royal jupon over brigandine armour, ropes 3/1, quatrefoils 5/4, bow-sprit through foc'sul, interior of castle now cross-hatched, ornaments 1-1-1-1, leopards facing right, rev. struck with an Edward III Post-Treaty die, + DOMInE : nE : InFVRORE : TVO : ARGVAS : ME [sic], double saltire stops, floriate cross, crowned leopards in angles, E• at centre, 3.141g [48.47grns], 4h, i.m. cross pattée (Doubleday 314 this coin; Stewartby III, 924 same obverse die [Type Ib]; BSJ 2, 27 March 2017, lot 50 same dies; BSJ 9, 21 September 2017, lot 1160 same reverse die; Schneider I, 119 same dies; Webb-Ware 1a/Ed. III PTP; North 1309/1282; S.1664/1523), clipped as often encountered for series, otherwise entirely original with natural honey golden toning in recesses, strictly fine / very fine, but extremely rare, and with a prestigious pedigree
