(x) Edward III (1327-1377), Post-Treaty Period, Noble, 1369-1377, "Group II", Tower (London), EDW | ARD 'x DI : GRA 'x REX x AnGL 'x Z x FRAnC 'x DnS x hIB 'x Z x AQV - T, annulet before EDW, single saltire stops, closed E, lombardic Ns, scroll-tailed R, King standing in ship, brandishing long sword and Royal shield set with semé of four fleurs in first quarter, wearing Royal jupon over brigandine armour, rerebrace, couter and gauntlet visible on sword arm, chain mail draping below, ropes 3/1, quatrefoils 5/4, bow-sprit through foc'sul, interior of castle now cross-hatched, ornaments 1-1-1-1, leopards facing right, rev. struck with a Treaty Period die, + Ih'C : AVTEM : TRANSIEnS : PER : MEDIV : ILLORV : IBAT, double saltire stops, floriate cross, small pellets flanking upper lys and one further at its base, crowned leopards in angles, large inverted E at centre, 7.653g [118.10grns], 2h [to i.m.], i.m. cross pattée (LAL, Group II [Group III/I Mule]; Doubleday 284 same reverse die; Schneider I, 111-114/107-108; North 1278/1231; S.1516), struck with rusted dies and lightly clipped, otherwise a most pleasingly wholesome and original striking, the fields bathed in lustre, almost extremely fine, and excessively rare, presently unrepresented in the Schneider collection
